The caves are typically dug in the side of mountains. The inhabitants of these homes use blankets or rice paper as doors. Some of the caves even have running water and electricity. And while they are really modest dwellings, there are some quite fancy: they have several rooms, high ceilings and yards.
A 46-year-old man explains he used to live in a cave but now occupies a flat as he started working in a city. He plans to return to the cave after his retirement. He points out that these cave homes are very comfortable because they are warm in winter and cool in summer.
The monthly rent of a basic cave with a single bedroom is about $30 but a three-bedroom cave with a bathroom and other luxuries can cost up to $46,000.
