Going through a divorce could be a huge hassle for most married couples. Usually, the divorce itself could pose a threat to the security of each family member both psychologically and physically.
In this case a man from Vienna, Austria decided to completely detach his ring finger from his hand. After cutting off his digit the angry soon-to-be-ex husband presented it in front of the court and his horrified wife.

The finger still had the wedding ring on it. When the man was questioned about his actions that day he responded that this was the only way he could break free from the marital bond and leave the whole bad experience behind him. The man said the missing finger wouldn’t hinder his ability to work and he did not plan to have it reattached. He pledged never to marry in his life again.
However, he did not get punished for the self-mutilation but he received a $500 fine for throwing his wife on the floor during a domestic dispute.
